Dear Special Purpose Bar
Leaders:
Please distribute this message to your members if they can
help young people in Michigan:
The State Bar Law Day subcommittee is busy gathering Law Day
essays and will soon begin the process of judging the
initial elimination round. Margaret Krasnoff, Chair of the
Law Day subcommittee, is looking for additional people to
judge the essays and would like greater diversity in the
pool of judges reading and scoring the essays. If you have
not had an opportunity to serve as a judge before, this
could be a great opportunity for you to learn about the Law
Day essay contest and contribute your good judgment to the
project; plus Margaret could use your help.
Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades are eligible to submit
an essay answering a public policy question using at least
one U. S. Supreme Court case to support their position. The
questions for 2010 are posted on the SBM website under "Law
Day 2010 'Should' Questions."
Essays are 300-500 words in length and will be distributed
soon to volunteer judges along with written criteria for
judging and a score sheet to return to the SBM. Judges
typically receive 30-45 essays to judge. We hope to complete
the judging by the first week in April so we will ask judges
to complete their scoring within 7-10 days after receiving
the essays.
A luncheon event to honor the essay competition winners is
scheduled for May 3, 2010 at the Hall of Justice with Chief
Justice Marilyn Kelly as speaker. Parents, teachers and
others, including the essay judges, are invited to attend
and recognize the students.

Dear Member :
Please welcome three new members
to our Board of Directors, per the new requirement by the
State of Michigan for non-profit corporations: Brian Akkashian,
Diane Margosian Paulsen, and Kara Tertzag Lividini.
Your board has arranged for a
feature spot on the Armenian Radio Hour, in which our members
will be interviewed for a 10-15 session in their practice
area. You get to pick the area of law that you would like to
discuss and draft your own questions (please make it consumer
friendly, remember this is an opportunity to obtain new
clients), and draft your own questions. Vaughn Masropian will
ask the questions in a pre-taped session, so there will be no
call-ins by the public. The fee for this media spot is
$200.00 and pre-payment of your $25.00 membership dues in the
Armenian-American Bar Association. Edward and Krista
Haroutunian have agreed to be the first and second featured
attorneys speaking on wills and probate. Lisa Tehlirian has
agreed to be the third speaker on immigration issues. If
interested, please fill out this year’s enclosed membership
form and check yes at the bottom of the page and return it to
me. I will contact you to arrange the radio interview.
Also enclosed is a class action
notice for Armenians that had bank accounts in Deutsche Bank
and Deutsche Orientbank in Turkey during 1875 and 1915. Even
though the deadline has passed, it might still be worthwhile
to contact them if you qualify.
Finally, we have arranged a Joint
